Back on boost: Hot-rod A4 ditches its V-8.

A new Audi S4 will be unveiled this start at the Paris show. Based on the revised A4 architecture, it will be powered by a new supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 instead of today’s 4.2-liter V-8. In the S4, the new engine is expected to produce about 330 horsepower—a shade less than the current S4’s 340 ponies—but the supercharged V-6 will produce more torque than the outgoing V-8. A 290-hp version of the supercharged V-6 will appear in the refreshed 2009 Audi A6.
